Taormina is known for its historical heritage and for its breathtaking sea, such as “Isola Bella of Taormina”. It is still one of the most popular destinations for those who decide to visit Sicily.

Here are the things you absolutely must see:

Start from “Porta Messina”. Under this stone archway you can savour the fusion of antiquity and vibrant modernity of Taormina.

Must-see: Palazzo Corvaja; this charming medieval stone fortress-palace is located a few minutes walk from “Porta Messina”.

Corso Umberto, the shopping avenue: Corso Umberto, a pedestrian street bounded by two stone archies, which are located at either end. It is a shopping paradise.

Sightseeing at Piazza IX Aprile: halfway along Corso Umberto there is a great and wonderful square with a checkered pavement, where you can take a break and take impressive pictures.

Must-see: Greek Theatre. Just six minutes from Porta Messina you come across Greek theatre (or ancient theatre) of Taormina, which gives us a suggestive scenery: the spectacular view of Ionian Sea and the powerful Etna on the horizon.

Admire the bay from municipal gardens: if you are looking for a heaven of peace from which to admire the amazing sea view, do not miss this little park. It lies just 4 minutes walk from Piazza IX Aprile.

But where is this famous Isola Bella of Taormina?

Take the cable car Mazzarò-Taormina. It is a fun way to enjoy the view over the city and its seascape: on board the Taormina cable car.

Finally, you can sunbathe on the beach of Isola Bella. The beach of Isola Bella is the perfect place for those who want to take a sun bath, lulled by the calm waters of Ionian sea.

You must not miss this landscape. Another must-see is the Sanctuary Madonna della Rocca. This historical chapel is carved into the rock, that dominates the city. From its overhanging courtyard you can enjoy a wonderful view on the Greek theatre and the bay.
